Our breakdown

Written before kickoff; projections as of Oct. 21, 2:20 PM ET.

The story

UTSA arrives at Yulman Stadium on Oct. 24 having won four straight, most recently a shootout against Navy, and sits unbeaten in American play. Tulane has been uneven at 3-3 but beat Memphis 31-17 on Oct. 16. For fantasy, the most useful pieces in this conference game are in the backfields, where usage is climbing for one back on each side.

The angle

This one is expected to be close, and neither offense's scoring points to an extreme game, so the calls come down to who is getting the work. UTSA's passing game runs through David Amador, who has 33 percent of the team's catches over the last three games, while Tulane's catches are split with no clear lead. UTSA's defense is below average against quarterbacks, but that is not a spot to chase: Kadin Semonza's recent production has been modest, and Tulane's offense is scoring 20.5 points a game.

Start 'em

Will Henderson's workload has grown: he is carrying 15.7 times a game over his last three games, up from 11.8 before that, which works out to 41 percent of UTSA's carries. Tulane is above average against running backs, a top-40-percent unit, and its run defense is about average, so this is not a soft draw. Still, he has been a steady producer, averaging 14.4 points a game this season and 15.9 over his last three, with a high of 18.9. A'Marion Peterson (UTSA) draws roughly half as many carries, which is why Henderson is the back to own. Henderson is a start because rising volume like his holds up against a capable defense.

Maurice Turner (Tulane) is in a timeshare. He has 26 percent of Tulane's carries over the last three games, and Johnnie Daniels has 31 percent. Turner's carries are climbing fast, though, to 10 a game over that span from 3.5 before. He has been the more productive back, averaging 12.5 points over his last three games to Daniels's 8.4, and he has done it with 101 rushing yards a game in that stretch. He has played in five of Tulane's six games, averaging 10.3 points this season, with a high of 33.6. UTSA is below average against running backs, a bottom-40-percent group, and is allowing 4.8 yards per carry. In a close game, that matchup gives his growing role room to break out. Turner is a ceiling play because a soft run defense and his explosive range point to a big afternoon.

Sit 'em

Brandon High has lost ground in UTSA's backfield. He has 14 percent of the team's carries over his last three games, down from 29 percent earlier in the season, and Henderson (UTSA) has absorbed that work. Tulane's above-average defense against running backs leaves little room to make up the difference on fewer touches. Fade him, since his piece of the rotation has shrunk too far to trust.

TL;DR

Start Henderson for his climbing workload, take a shot on Turner's ceiling against UTSA's soft run defense, and leave Brandon High on the bench.
