News
BYU running back LJ Martin is expected to be sidelined for at least a month by the injury he sustained early in the Cougars' game against TCU on Oct. 3, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. If that timeline holds, Martin would also miss BYU's game against UCF on Oct. 24, according to Sports Illustrated.
Bear Bachmeier threw for 224 yards and 1 touchdown, ran 13 times for 45 yards and 2 touchdowns, and caught 1 pass for 15 yards and 1 touchdown in BYU's 28-24 win over Notre Dame on Oct. 17, worth 36 CollegeFFB points. He was the first BYU quarterback since Steve Young with a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in one game, according to the Deseret News. "There was no way I was going to lose to those guys tonight," Bachmeier said. At $10.1M, he is in line for more big outings when BYU visits UCF on Oct. 24, averaging 25.9 points a game this season.
Walker Lyons caught 5 passes for 49 yards and 1 touchdown in BYU's 28-24 win over Notre Dame on Oct. 17, scoring 15.9 CollegeFFB points. His touchdown came on a diving catch in the end zone that put BYU ahead, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. Averaging 7.3 points a game this season, he could keep delivering at $5.4M when BYU plays at UCF on Oct. 24.
Preston Rex filled in admirably for LJ Martin in BYU's backfield, according to the Deseret News, running 10 times for 66 yards and catching 2 passes for 4 yards in BYU's 28-24 win over Notre Dame on Oct. 17. He scored 9 CollegeFFB points in that game. BYU visits UCF, which allows the 28th-fewest yards per carry in FBS this season, on Oct. 24, but Rex looks like he could keep handling a hefty share of the work at $5M.
