College Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire: Top Adds & Transfer Targets

Looking for the best college fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 6? We've got you covered.
In CollegeFFB, we have transfers rather than waiver claims, but the goal is the same: find the players who can improve your roster before everyone else catches on.
And Week 6 is where roster depth really starts getting tested.
Bye weeks are becoming a much bigger part of the equation, with some major fantasy names unavailable this week. KJ Duff and Malachi Toney are both on bye, leaving plenty of managers searching for replacements at wide receiver and flex.
Fortunately, there are a lot of interesting options on the board.
Some are players we've mentioned before who still aren't owned enough. Others are emerging because of injuries, role changes or breakout performances in Week 5.
Here are our favorite college fantasy football waiver wire pickups and CollegeFFB transfer targets for Week 6.
Power 4 Waiver Wire Pickups
Quarterbacks
Holden Geriner, Pitt
CollegeFFB Price: $4.5M
This one is all about opportunity and price.
With Mason Heintschel going down against Virginia Tech, Holden Geriner was thrust into action and completed 8-of-12 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Now Geriner is in line to take over a Pitt offense that has been pretty darn good this season, and you're potentially getting its starting quarterback for just $4.5M.
We obviously need to see what this offense looks like with Geriner running it for an entire game, but at that price, he's immediately one of the more interesting budget quarterbacks in CollegeFFB.
If you're looking deep on the Week 6 waiver wire for a quarterback, Geriner is exactly the type of inexpensive starter worth taking a chance on.
Gio Lopez, Wake Forest
CollegeFFB Price: $7.4M
Gio Lopez and Wake Forest are legit.
At this point, I think we can stop treating this as a fun early-season story and start treating Lopez like a legitimate fantasy quarterback.
The rushing production gives him an excellent weekly floor, while Wake Forest has shown it can put up points through the air too. That's exactly the combination we're looking for from a fantasy quarterback.
There's also something to be said for simply buying into a good offense when it becomes clear that our preseason expectations may have been too low.
If Lopez is somehow still available in your league, that probably shouldn't last much longer.
Running Backs
Aiden Flora, Iowa State
CollegeFFB Price: $6.2M
Okay, Iowa State. You have our attention.
We mentioned Aiden Flora as a waiver wire target two weeks ago, but after what he just did against West Virginia, we're going back to him again.
Flora ran 22 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns.
Oh, and he also threw two touchdown passes.
Yes, the running back threw two touchdowns.
That's five total scores in one afternoon, and he's now gone from an interesting breakout candidate to someone who needs to be taken seriously every single week.
Obviously, we're not projecting Flora to casually throw two touchdowns every Saturday. But the rushing production and involvement in this offense are very real.
If you passed on him when we mentioned him the first time, consider this your second warning.
Caleb Komolafe, Northwestern
CollegeFFB Price: $7.5M
I'll admit it: I kind of forgot about Caleb Komolafe.
He was banged up to begin the year, and Northwestern wasn't exactly an offense I was rushing to invest in.
That may have been a mistake.
Komolafe just exploded for 188 rushing yards and a touchdown against Penn State, while Northwestern as a team ran for an absurd 413 yards.
And maybe the bigger takeaway here is that Northwestern might actually be... good?
There are other mouths to feed in this backfield, so we're not expecting Komolafe to get every carry. But a healthy running back producing like this behind an offensive line that's suddenly rolling is absolutely worth another look.
If his early-season injury caused someone in your league to forget about him too, now is the time to take advantage.
Wide Receivers
Kwazi Gilmer, Nebraska
CollegeFFB Price: $6.3M
Kwazi Gilmer is starting to turn this into a real breakout.
Two straight 100-yard performances will get our attention, especially when the second one comes with 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The former UCLA receiver has quickly become an important part of Nebraska's passing attack, and we're reaching the point where this isn't something we can dismiss as a couple of random big plays.
The upcoming schedule gets considerably tougher, so this isn't necessarily about chasing one favorable Week 6 matchup.
It's about getting ahead of a receiver whose role and production are both trending in the right direction.
Que'Sean Brown, Virginia Tech
CollegeFFB Price: $6.0M
Que'Sean Brown has been getting plenty of volume all season, and Week 5 finally gave us the ceiling game we'd been waiting for.
Brown caught seven passes for 147 yards and a touchdown against Pitt, his second 100-yard performance of the season.
Even before the breakout, the consistent involvement was there.
That's what makes Brown particularly interesting in PPR formats. We're not solely chasing a receiver who happened to catch one 70-yard touchdown last week. There's a legitimate target floor here to go along with the big-play upside.
Brown has quietly become one of the more interesting wide receivers on the Week 6 waiver wire.
Chris Durr Jr., Maryland
CollegeFFB Price: $6.4M
The Chris Durr Jr. breakout continues.
At this point, the most encouraging thing isn't any single box score. It's the volume.
Durr continues to command a major share of Maryland's passing game, and that's exactly what we're looking for from a fantasy receiver.
Even when the offense isn't firing on all cylinders, the targets continue to find him.
Maryland may create some frustrating Saturdays, but consistent volume is hard to ignore in a PPR format. If you're looking for a receiver whose role feels sustainable rather than someone you're adding purely because of one big week, Durr belongs on the list.
Chase Sowell, Penn State
CollegeFFB Price: $5.5M
I'm not exactly rushing out to load up on Penn State's offense right now.
But with Koby Howard out, Chase Sowell has a much clearer path to WR1 volume, and that alone makes him interesting during a heavy bye week.
This isn't necessarily a player I'm expecting to suddenly become one of the top fantasy receivers in college football.
It's about opportunity.
Someone has to catch passes in this offense, and Sowell is positioned to see enough volume to make him a viable option.
He's probably more flex play than must-add receiver, but Week 6 is exactly when players like this become useful.
DJ Epps, West Virginia
CollegeFFB Price: $6.0M
West Virginia produces a lot of its fantasy value on the ground, which can make the passing game a little difficult to trust.
DJ Epps is the exception worth considering.
The volume hasn't always been huge, but Epps has consistently shown big-play ability and has established himself as a legitimate weapon in this offense.
That creates a pretty straightforward fantasy profile.
The floor isn't necessarily as comfortable as some of the higher-volume receivers on this list, but the ceiling is absolutely there whenever he breaks one.
With plenty of fantasy managers scrambling to cover Week 6 byes, Epps has enough upside to be a viable flex play.
Tight Ends
Jelani Thurman, North Carolina
CollegeFFB Price: $5.0M
Yes, Jelani Thurman is here again.
And he's probably going to keep appearing here until his CollegeFFB ownership catches up with his production.
His ownership understandably dropped with North Carolina's Week 4 bye and a difficult Notre Dame matchup in Week 5, but the bigger picture hasn't changed.
Thurman continues to be involved in the passing game at a position where simply finding consistent involvement can be difficult.
That's especially important at tight end. We don't necessarily need 100 yards every week. We're looking for players who consistently run routes, earn targets and have opportunities to find the end zone.
If other managers dropped Thurman because of the schedule, take advantage.
He remains one of my favorite differentials at tight end.
Group of 6 Waiver Wire Pickups
Running Backs
James Jones, New Mexico State
CollegeFFB Price: $7.2M
James Jones is quietly putting together a really nice season for New Mexico State.
He just ran for a season-high 155 yards and a touchdown against Western Kentucky, bringing him to 510 rushing yards through five games.
That's more than 100 rushing yards per game.
New Mexico State isn't going to be the first offense fantasy managers look toward every week, but volume plus efficiency is a pretty good formula for fantasy production.
Jones has both right now.
If you're digging beyond the obvious Power 4 names on the college fantasy football waiver wire, Jones deserves your attention.
Kam Davis, Liberty
CollegeFFB Price: $8.8M
Kam Davis has settled into a substantial role at Liberty after transferring from Florida State.
The touchdown production hasn't necessarily matched the yardage yet, but the underlying usage is encouraging.
Davis has been efficient when given the ball and has enough involvement in Liberty's offense to remain an interesting CollegeFFB transfer target.
That's sometimes exactly where you want to buy.
Instead of chasing a player immediately after a three-touchdown game, you're getting in on someone whose workload and yardage suggest there could be better fantasy performances ahead.
If the touches stay intact, there should be more scoring opportunities coming.
George Pettaway, James Madison
CollegeFFB Price: $9.4M
George Pettaway's workload is becoming difficult to ignore.
This isn't necessarily a home-run swing based on one ridiculous box score.
It's a bet on a player getting consistent touches in a good Group of 6 offense.
Those are exactly the types of running backs who can quietly turn into reliable fantasy starters as the season progresses.
Pettaway may not be the flashiest waiver wire addition this week, but sometimes the boring answer is simply taking the running back who's going to keep getting the football.
Wide Receivers
Jesse Legree, Oregon State
CollegeFFB Price: $7.5M
We're well beyond calling this a breakout candidate.
Jesse Legree is having a breakout season.
And somehow, he just keeps getting better.
Legree caught three touchdowns against Colorado State in Week 5 as Oregon State put up 56 points.
At this point, the production isn't a fluke.
He also becomes particularly interesting for CollegeFFB managers this week with KJ Duff and Malachi Toney both on bye.
If you're looking for a legitimate replacement rather than simply plugging a random receiver into your lineup for one week, Legree should be near the top of the list.
We're well into his breakout campaign already, but until his CollegeFFB ownership catches up, he's going to keep showing up as a transfer target.
Tight Ends
Eric Olsen, Oregon State
CollegeFFB Price: $6.2M
Apparently Oregon State has decided to save fantasy teams at every position.
Jesse Legree has already emerged as one of the season's breakout receivers, and now the Beavers may have gifted us a usable fantasy tight end too.
Eric Olsen caught two touchdowns against Colorado State
